Good fit when
You want to know which newer SAT apps and AI tools are worth trying and what each one costs.
Before you choose
New apps change quickly, and none of them is official SAT practice. We have not measured which raises scores most. Use College Board's free Bluebook tests to check progress.
Published by Dolphin, one of the options discussed. This is a review of documented features and study fit, not a hands-on benchmark or a measured ranking of learning outcomes.
What makes the newer SAT apps different
The SAT moved to a digital, adaptive format, and a wave of newer apps followed. Compared with traditional courses, they tend to:
- Work on a phone, with short sessions instead of long lessons.
- Include AI help that explains a question or gives a hint.
- Cost less, often with a free version.
- Adapt practice to the skills you miss.
The tradeoff: fewer have live teachers, and their practice tests are not official.

Frequently asked questions
What are the newest SAT prep apps?
Newer SAT prep tools built for the digital SAT include Dolphin (launched on the App Store in August 2025), Acely, AlphaTest, OnePrep, and Khanmigo. In 2026, Google added free SAT practice tests to Gemini and The Princeton Review launched a free SAT app inside ChatGPT.
Are new SAT apps better than older prep courses?
Not automatically. Newer apps tend to be cheaper, built for phones, and include AI help. Older companies like Kaplan and The Princeton Review offer live classes and tutoring. Choose by how your student studies and what help they need.
Which new SAT prep apps are free?
Dolphin's iPhone and Android apps are free. AlphaTest and OnePrep have free plans with limited content, and Gemini's SAT practice tests are free. Khanmigo is $4 a month. College Board's Bluebook and Khan Academy's Digital SAT courses are also free.
Can ChatGPT or Gemini replace an SAT prep app?
They are useful for explanations and planning, but they do not track your practice over time unless a provider builds that in, and their tests are not College Board tests. Check AI explanations against a worked solution.
